Talka & Spring Fundraiser

Dear Friends! Every year we kick off the camp season with our annual spring fundraiser and Talka work weekend over Memorial Day weekend to prep for summer activities. We are grateful for the donors and volunteers that support this long-standing tradition! This year’s projects include cleaning up tree debris, filling potholes, fixing the dining hall fascia, re-oiling the classroom building, terracing, pressure washing, cleaning, and more. Please consider joining us this year!

We need to raise $20,000 this spring to cover insurance and bills, in addition to the prep and infrastructure upgrades needed for the 2023 season. Your tax-deductible donations are just as important to the success of our facility as our hard-working volunteers!

Dear Friends,
The West Coast Latvian Education Center is celebrating its 40th Anniversary! That’s 40 years of singing, dancing, learning the Latvian language and culture, enjoying nature, and generally loving our special place in Shelton. We hope you’ll mark your calendars for a celebratory weekend of fun over Labor Day weekend this September! There will be activities for all ages and interests. More details coming soon!

Every year we kick off the camp season with our annual Talka over Memorial Day weekend to clean, fix up, clear out, and prep for summer activities. We are grateful for the volunteers that support this long-standing tradition and for all that they accomplish during that weekend.  This year’s projects include cleaning up tree debris, filling potholes, fixing the dining hall fascia, re-oiling the classroom building, terracing, pressure washing, cleaning, and more. Please consider joining us from May 27th through 29th.  For one day only, or for the entire weekend, we hope you can make it! (See Facebook for details.)

Given the age of our facility, there are also larger infrastructure upgrades that we are tackling this year. These include installation of fiber optic cable to upgrade our internet service, replacing the kitchen stove, building a new playground structure, forest maintenance to remove invasive species and trees that pose a threat, replacing exterior dorm doors (to meet fire code), and replacement of two water heaters.

Increased operating costs as a result of rising costs and inflation, as well as higher maintenance fees due to the age of our facility, have depleted our reserve savings account to a level not seen in many years. We need to raise $20,000 this spring to cover insurance and bills, in addition to the prep and infrastructure upgrades needed for the 2023 season. Your tax-deductible donations are just as important to the success of our facility as our hard-working volunteers!

Please consider making a personally meaningful gift to support another 40 years of learning and celebrating our Latvian culture. Make a donation online.
